Favicons in WordPress.com

I just published a short post on the Latitude blog about Microsoft and Google’s recent testing of favicon’s in the SERPs.

Half way through writing the piece I realised I didn’t actually have a favicon on my own blog, so set about trying to generate and upload one. While there were lots of blog posts on uploading a favicon to a hosted wordpress.org blog, there was little to help me upload one to my wordpress.com blog.

The answer finally came here, and was surprisingly easy to do.

SMX London – 3 Panels in one day!

November is looking to be a busy month for speaking opportunities.

On the 4th November I’ll be on not 1, not 2, but 3 panels at SMX London this year, talking about PPC for all levels of knowledge; beginner to advanced. I’m particularly looking forward to the session on PPC pitfalls since it will be a chance to highlight some of the great faux pas in Search Marketing.

Moving into the second week of November it’s the World Travel Marketing Event, and on the 13th I’ll be speaking about some of the most recent developments in Search Marketing and how they apply to Travel Marketers.

Last time I spoke I was preaching about Photosynth so this year I best have a live demo since it’s now widely available.

If you’re attending either of these events, be sure to say hi!

Yet another Richard Gregory?

A while ago I wrote about the “other” Richard Gregory at Google yet and how yournotme.com showed 288 other Richard Gregory’s on the electoral register.

More recently I appear to have been penalised by Google for a combination of duplicate content and the way UK2 re-directed my domain name to my blogger blog ( a bloomin’ 302 re-direct it turns out).

Anyway this blog comes to you courtesy of wordpress and 301 re-redirect, and eventually I plan to pull my finger out and install wordpress on my server. I just need a bit of free time.

Now that I’ve moved [blog] home I’m trying to get back to a page one results for my own name and it’s proving pretty tough.

Why?

Because another “Richard Gregory” appears to be a world renowned surgeon who has written and published heaps of research, most of which is now available online with links galore pointing to the guys website.

But hey, that’s actually a good thing for the guy but it isn’t helping me any.

For now I’ve leap-frogged the chap with a quick and cheap PPC ad at the top of the page – I love search!

…and yes this post is a blatant attempt to rank better for my own name!

The “Arrogant” Google Rep

It was bad enough that I was jet lagged from the conference in Dubai last week, but to then hot-foot it over to the London Metropole and present at SMX London may have been a little too much as you can see from the great comic strip review from the sitevisibility guys.

Go see the rest of them at – http://www.sitevisibility.co.uk/blog/?p=103

…and you can view a copy of the [very short] presentation here…but beware, the slideshare.net system mucks up my fonts and builds.

I guess I made up for Google’s absence from the Search Advertising panel by plugging a couple of their products.
Maybe I’m getting confused with the other Richard Gregory but, according to NMA and Marketing Week, I’m a bit too arrogant for Google myself.

More than one Richard Gregory?

Over the last few years I’ve often been confused with my namesake at Google. This was further compounded by the fact that the “other” Richard Gregory used to work quite closely with Latitude’s Google accounts and we also used to speak at the same events.

Fortunetely Richard is now over in the US but there was still a photo confusion in a recent edition of Revolution when a piece I wrote on behalf of SEMPO (I’m the current UK Chair) was accompanied by the “other” Richard’s photo!

I guess I shouldn’t surprised. According to http://www.yournotme.com/ (hat tip to Justin) there are 288 of us in the UK alone.
